Jailer Position
 

Summary of Duties:

  • Maintains order and discipline through enforcing rules and regulations among inmates held in the facility while assuring a safe and clean environment exists for the inmates and officers.
  • Monitors all actions and movements of inmates through direct cell block surveillance or through an intercom and video systems; mediates any disturbances in the blocks.
  • Inspects the blocks and cells to detect any contraband or unauthorized possessions.
  • Processes booking paperwork.
  • Dispenses meals and medication as directed.
  • Operates control room and coordinates store calls.
  • May assist with transporting inmates.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications Required:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Certified Detention Officer preferred.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of days and nights.
  • Georgia P.O.S.T. Certification desirable.
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures used in controlling and disciplining inmates desirable.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of days and nights.
  • Georgia POST BASIC JAIL OFFICER Certification required or obtained within 6 months.
  • United States citizenship required for P.O.S.T. Certification.

Physical Requirements:

Physical Ability:

  • Tasks require the ability to exert physical effort in work which may include some lifting,carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate to heavyweight (50-200 pounds).
  • Duties require the ability to operate a motor vehicle and a personal computer.

Sensory Requirements:

  • Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors:

  • Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather.
  • The work environment routinely involves imminent danger from conditions or events which cannot be fully anticipated or protected against, and which exposes the incumbent to life-threatening situations.
