Our Responsibilities

The Franklin County Building Department is responsible for issuing, maintaining, and tracking permits for all new construction, alterations, and additions, along with reviewing plans, and inspecting residential and commercial construction for compliance with current Georgia Building Codes and any other applicable construction requirements.

Franklin County Building Inspections enforces the International Building Codes as prescribed by the International Code Council, mandated by and amended by the State of Georgia.

The following Building Codes have been adopted by Franklin County.

  • International Building Code, Latest Adopted Edition with Georgia Amendments 
  • International Residential Code, Latest Adopted Edition, with Georgia Amendments 
  • International Fire Code, Latest Adopted Edition (No Georgia Amendments)
  • International Plumbing Code, Latest Adopted Edition, with Georgia Amendments
  • International Mechanical Code, Latest Adopted Edition, with Georgia Amendments 
  • International Fuel Gas Code, Latest Adopted Edition, with Georgia Amendments
  • National Electrical Code, Latest Adopted Edition (No Georgia Amendments)
  • International Energy Conservation Code, Latest Adopted Edition, with Georgia Supplements and Amendments
  • International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, Latest Adopted Edition, with Georgia Amendments
  • International Property Maintenance Code, Latest Adopted Edition, with Georgia Amendments

Franklin County Building Inspections also enforce Erosion and Sediment Controls for new developments within the County.
