Franklin County and our community partners are hosting a Hometown Heroes Event including a dedication and celebration on Saturday, November 13th starting at 9 AM.

A dedication and ceremony honoring both veterans and public safety members will be held at the Franklin County Courthouse Square where the Franklin County Memorial Plaza is located. This portion will be from 9-10 AM. A parade will occur shortly after the ceremony leading up to the community event which will be held on Hull Ave from Old Carnesville Elementary to the City Park. We are in the search of the oldest living veteran to serve as the honorary grand marshal. Please fill out the form and return it no later than October 22nd for consideration. This event is to honor our veterans and first responders that have lost their lives while also celebrating those who have dedicated and continue to dedicate themselves day after day.

Please join us in honoring and celebrating our Military, Public Safety, and Veterans.

There will be food, vendors, music, a kid area, & more! We are still in need of sponsors, vendors, & volunteers. The forms for both sponsors and vendors are listed below.

Franklin County Hometown Heroes Event. This event is a celebration of our Veterans and Public Safety Personnel. This event honors & celebrates those who serve and protect us daily. What better way as a community to come together and recognize our hometown heroes.

 It is a full day packed with a lot of love! 

 9-10 AM Dedication Ceremony for the Franklin County Veterans Memorial, Public Safety Memorial, & the unveiling of The Blue & Gold Star Memorial Markers. This portion will be held at the Franklin County Courthouse in Carnesville, Georgia

 *Please allow handicapped parking in front of the courthouse.*

Master of Ceremonies is Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Fowler. We have Special Guest Speakers. One is Kendra Lou Pieper and she is a Former Paratrooper @ 173rd Special Troops Battalion. We have speaker Donald McDuffie from the Fraternal Order of Police. We also have Jan These and Peggy Tucker with the National Garden Club. We look forward to hosting them.

 The Celebration portion of the event will take place on Hull Ave in Carnesville. Most of Hull Avenue will be closed. Parking will be at top of Hull Avenue and overflow at the Rocky Ford Recreation Center.

11 AM Parade of Veterans & Public Safety Personnel from all Franklin County Community and Partners. Franklin County’s eldest veteran will be our Grand Marshal and we have several Honorary Marshals. The parade route is from Rocky Ford Rec Department to Hull Ave. The viewpoints will be on the left side of the road from the Old Carnesville Elementary School to the Sid and Augusta Memorial Park in Carnesville.

We have over 20 vendors, educational events, a kid's area including bouncy houses, TWISTER THE CLOWN, a coloring station, Touch-A-Truck, & more!!!!

 12-1 PM VFW Post 5897 Lavonia, GA’s  Fire in the Hole Pepper eating contest! This will be at the 1st gazebo at the Sid and Augusta White Memorial Park. You can register 10-11 AM that day at the gazebo. If you would like to register before the event a waiver and registration form is available on our website. The cost to register is $20. 1-2 PM Pie in the Face for Commissioners & More! Bring some cash because it is time to smash some pies for a good cause! For just $5 you’ll get 3 Pies for a chance Pie a Commissioner or the County Manager. This will take place right after Fire in the Hole at the same location.

 6-6:30 PM Fireworks & Candle Service

 This is an outdoor event.   Free entry to the public.
